The report said neither leading candidate initially reached the 31,911-vote quota. As lower-ranked candidates were eliminated, ballots were transferred according to voters’ ranked preferences, giving Jha enough additional votes to take the seat. The result brings the RJD’s tally level with the BJP’s two seats in the Darbhanga contests, according to the report.
